International Certification
AIDA Pool Safety certification is available as an option for participants who meet the requirements. Upon successful completion, you will become an AIDA Pool Safety Freediver

This is the required certification to be a Safety Diver at AIDA competitions all over the world.

You will be listed in the AIDA Safeties directory.

Each time you safety in a competition you will gain points, earning your way to becoming a higher ranking safety diver.

Preliminary Schedule
DAY 01 Theory (3h), Pool session (2h, STA rescue), theory (incl. video review) - UWC Pool
DAY 02 Theory (3h), Pool session (2h, DYN rescue), theory (incl. video review) - UWC Pool
Prerequisites
-
Certification: Must hold a Freediver certification, AIDA2 Pool or a recognized equivalent.

Age: You must be at least 18 years old.

Documentation: Completion of the AIDA Medical and Liability Release forms.

Be willing to work in a team and have satisfactory communication skills.

Physical requirements:
-
100m surface swim in less than 1:45 (no equipment)
-
50m surface sprint using fins and floating board in less than 35” (50m pool)
-
50m DYNB
-
30” STA at the bottom of the pool (1m-3m)

Experience: While the standards generally require previous AIDA competition experience, our goal is to build local team capacity from the ground up. Participants will have opportunities to serve as safeties in upcoming competitions in South Africa.

Registered student lifeguards at UWC admitted into the course, will automatically receive full sponsorship (no cost) - spaces are limited and final certification selection for this special sponsorship will be made based on performance merit.

This sponsorship will be awarded based on a combination of the Applicant’s technical diving ability and their demonstrated dedication to the growth of the Freediving Sport in South Africa.
